More than perceptive, Bret. Well written, too. Your writing showed a groove. Bravo.

Bitterness over the outcome of the election is understandable. However, hyperbole doesn't convince many people. Democracy will continue as it always has. Comparisons to Hitler are demeaning to the memory of the 6 million innocents who perished. VP Harris conducted a poor campaign. She was unable to articulate a policy message. Contrary to law (EEOC), her selection as a candidate by Pres. Biden was based on her physical attributes (i.e., Biden stated he would select a women of color). Selecting candidates based on merit may have produced a better outcome for the Democrat Party.

The downtrodden want to be him. Slick, powerful and rich. He was the shiny carrot. (Orange as well). They don’t care as much about democracy, hope and joy. They also don’t understand the implications of another trump presidency. They drank the Kool-Aid. 😢

Those of us who do not deny the evils of Hitler's reign know that this would-be dictator must be resisted at every step. Not with violence but with courage and hope. Day one was two days ago.

Don't you think she might have lost 13 million votes because she didn't clearly condemn Netanyahou's regime. Lot of people didn't vote for dems because of that. I'm not a US citizen but clearly, I would never have voted for anyone who praised Bibi.

You make a very good point. But, I don't think it would have mattered. Trump and his associates have a 24/7 propaganda machine with Fox News, and overwhelmingly dominate the podcast market with Joe Rogan, Tucker Carlson and several others, with nearly one hundred million subscribers. Most Americans aren't smart enough to tell lies from truth. Everything Trump said was a lie, and he repeated those same lies for months and months, brainwashing the general populace. The Democrats were stupid enough to believe mainstream media would save them. But the New York Times, The Washington Post and CNN sane washed Trump, never reporting the Truth about what he was saying. The corporate media also created Trump and fueled his rise to power. There's a special place in hell for men like Trump and Bibi and for my money, they can't get there fast enough.

Public opinion on mass deportations shows notable support among Americans, with a CBS News/YouGov poll indicating that 56% of registered voters favor deporting immigrants living in the country illegally. This view extends into the Hispanic community, where 53% now support mass deportations, reflecting a significant shift in sentiment within this demographic.

Remember, this is happening in the US, not 1930s Germany. Back then, Hitler found out it was much easier to kill the Jews, rather than deport them.

Of course when Trump starts putting undocumented immigrants into concentration camps, it might be more cost effective to....

Would a majority of Americans support that?

I think that is a bit of hyperbole. The reality is likely going to be a selective deportation process (including those with criminal history). Concentration camps is a bit of hyperbole. Despite the attempt to compare true fascist regimes to Mr. Trump, that is very unlikely to take place. But the borders are most likely to be made more secure. I understand Mexico is a nice place to live, and those immigrants might find it almost as appealing as the USA.

Not too far-fetched a scenario for a trump presidency.
