Sonny and Miles: The Need for Change
Sonny talks about his relationship with Miles Davis
Sonny Rollins and Miles Davis collaborated on several occasions during the 1950s. One of the most notable collaborations between the two jazz giants was the recording of the album "Miles Davis and the Modern Jazz Giants" in 1954, which featured a session with Sonny Rollins on tenor saxophone, Miles Davis on trumpet, Thelonious Monk on piano, Milt Jackson on vibes, Percy Heath on bass, and Kenny Clarke on drums. The track "Dig," from another session, is also a well-known recording featuring both Rollins and Davis.
Their collaborations are considered significant in the history of jazz, as both musicians were pivotal figures in the development and evolution of modern jazz.
