Good points made here. I catch myself heavily engaged in tick-tick more often than I care to admit. It's a form of masturbation, isn't it? Little mini orasms assured by feeding into your algorhythms over and over again!
True dat (bravo). Happy that even as a driven young A-type, I intuitively understood this. Being in nature was foundational. Later, following much hard-earned success, a nasty divorce took everything from me. The re-boot brought a whole new appreciation for…well everything. It’s been one of life’s greatest gifts…
I belong to a pretty different culture. Not Guanajato’s but probably closer to it than your US one, despite all the brainwashing through movies, TV shows, bestsellers and other cultural banners. It makes me sad this line: “They don’t need to exploit you anymore. You exploit yourself. And you call it ambition.·” Sounds like a Supertramp’s tune. They were British. The so called “ambition” is destroying us along the greed of the 0.1% that owns a lot more than they actually deserve.
“We lived better against Franco” — when the murderous Franco does, uh nobody knew what to. Sex, drugs and rock n roll set in along with cultural inertia. Sunday syndrome!
I can imagine a better kind of human being.
More brave. More insightful. More compassionate.
I can imagine and wish
that I was that better human being but
this isn’t my time. Only a few are ready.
Even our brains can be
more effective
more conscious
some time to come. I can imagine
being a better kind of human
and maybe some day I will live
that destiny but trouble always makes a place
and the human race goes off
on a tangent
goes nuts for nothing
kills without provocation.
We must do better or vanish.
The human race? The universe teems
with life, is filled
with species, races, creatures beyond
every horizon, every direction
intelligent, inventive, kind creatures, dexterous
and wise.
Today I will become a better kind of human being.
They are out there, but No one is coming to save us. Ten thousand races of vibrant creatures
avoid this planet, know to avoid humanity for a while yet to come.
The poet speaks!
This is one of your most incredible essays, Bret. Truth it is; truth.

Franco died…
