"a life of moments over an eternity of echoes." Those are the words that struck me. As we grow older, "an eternity of echoes" is the everpresent danger. It can be comforting to dwell on past experiences, all the while missing what's going on now. I sometimes tell myself to shutup and stop repeating the echoes of the past. When a career comes to an end, it's easy to dwell on what was. Far better to find something pleasurable to do than think about what isn't.
Great story and so well written!!Perhaps a few riffs from Hesse’s Steppenwolf entered your dream?Especially enjoyed the descriptions of the jazz world inhabitants!!So true in many ways?Reminds me of the Legendary SF Venue called The Both/And that was owned by bassist Delano and his partner Lenny!So many characters frequented the Both/And,And they added to the Allure and Special Nature of this Venue.I hung out and played at this club and was very blessed to hear all the Greats that performed there..Miles,CannonBall,Lee and Freddie,Woody Shaw and Roland Kirk and Tony with the New Early version of The Lifetime Band,Mingus and Dannie Richmond and Gene Ammons and Stitt!!Cant forget Donald Rafael Garrett and Bobby Hutcherson!Eddie Henderson and Mike Clark and Steve Turre…Larry Young and John Mcglaucklin and Joe Chambers!Plus Walid!
