With gold, whiskey, and tobacco you can barter just about anything. Or so said a friend. I’m rereading Dhalgren, btw. Always interesting, like rereading Moby Dick, or The Iliad.

Truer words never spoken! Besides stocking up on the items you mention, I might add non perishable food, water, medications, etc.

Hmn, last time, I wasn't able to comment, but I see if I put a "like'' first, it will let me, so I will try to remember that, if my brain will let me.

An apocalyptic vision to be sure, but at this juncture, it certainly seems more plausible than not.

I agree. It is certainly not a time to put all your eggs in one basket. And yes, I do enjoy your writing style and appreciate your speculations. Let us hope mass protests will ensue before it gets that far. Or maybe someone will make the dear leader an offer he can't refuse.

But even if that were to happen, we'd be stuck with Vance, who is also appears to be a devoted proponent of project 2025, though maybe he'd at least have the balls to confront Musk!

the democratic party is vacant of any real leadership, if there is any chance for opposition it lies in getting rid of past leadership and fostering new, like the kind of creativity and tech skills shown by those who hacked in and posted tRump kissing muskrat’s toes

Well, if what you propose is sure to happen, misery will have to learn to love company. Meantime, I trust in the opposition to the bullies and their lackeys that is being carried out in many courts and in honest reporting of people speaking words of solidarity and encouragement. There are numerous R politicians who are hearing the anger of constituents in town halls and seeing protests in the streets (and on TV). It might take some time, but bipartisan solutions can prevail. In Europe, nations commit to fighting or otherwise defeating Russia with or without the U.S. The invisible power not usually mentioned in public can still embolden people to seek the common good.
