If indeed this was recorded before the studio session, then all the highly touted spontaneity of the studio recording would be called into question-if indeed they were playing it previously- and possibly other tunes from the album..?
It may be the album I have listened to more than any other, as well. It is gratefully etched into my memory cells. Haven't heard it in years, though. Think I'll put it on. Makes me miss my collection of 33's!
Thanks for the Birdland recording (State sponsored, eh NPR?)
Trane hitting close to “Impressions” during his solo, and Cannonball still “Finding” a New Baby, ala “Milestones,” during his. And so different w Kelly at the piano, especially during his solo.
Outstanding live version, wow, have never heard that one! Any idea what the second tune is? And a great recap to what makes jazz jazz..🙏🏽

Figured it out.
That Birdland recording was Aug 1959, so indeed, after, not before, the studio session..
Thanks. Good piece!

Also, I think the second tune was a variation on “The Theme.”
