If humans don't choose, and demand, their preferred scenarios, then Nature will surely step in to decide for us. Another Carrington Event, Yosemite implosion, or fungii takeover are all waiting in the wings.

America has no idea what to do with humans who are unemployed, really jumps out at me. This may be what is pushing the immigration hysteria.

This nails it. The paradox of building AI concentration while democratic institutions erode isn't just bad timing, it's existentially dangerous. The observation about Mexico valuing presence over productvity is something I keep coming back to when thinking about post-scarcity futures. We're so hardwired to measure worth through economic output that abundance feels like failure instead of liberation.

I love this essay, Bret, and you are so right about the creative spirit. One thing AI cannot do, thank goodness, is give an honest performance of human emotion LIVE. I can't wait to visit Guanajuato this October. Maybe we can have lunch.

You picked the perfect time to visit. Are you coming for Cervantino?

I'm planning on it! I'll let you know when things are finalized.

AI cannot create anything without a human pressing a button or giving vocal/written instructions...

It's basically mute...

Not intelligent...

Bret Primack's avatar

True, but that may change sooner than we think.

That's right. Humans think. AI does what AI does best. re-act and copy.
