We don't hear many 7/4 compositions from this era. (Maybe 13/8?) It has such vivid movement!
I"ve seen success kill more jazz musicians than obscurity. But that's a speculative statement. I'm 77 and began study of piano five years ago, after 50 years at the drums. God I love it! Fender Rhodes and Hammond B3? The cat was adventurous. Thanks for this, Bret.
Thanks for a beautiful remembrance of this unsung musician. Your piece prompted me to buy Coral Keys and I'm looking forward to getting it. There was so much great music coming out on indie labels like Black Jazz, Muse and Xanadu back in the seventies and when someone like yourself posts about it I'm transported back to the days when you could just walk into a record store and luxuriate in all the great albums you could buy, if you just had the money.
