You are impressive, Bret. It's vital that we attend to the words we use. Words are the basic structures of thoughts. And we know what thoughts are: the lineaments of our created Reality.
Good philosophical advice. Reminds me of an AA prayer (minus the god stuff, for me), "... the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference."
Takes the kind of self awareness for which you are advocating.
I was reading my unpublished MS of "The Shadow Storm". It's a fantasy novel set in an alternate world. I came upon this line: "Without further word, the men galloped up the road, disappearing into the darkness that tumbled across the world like a landslide."
Stoics have much wisdom to share. As do Buddhists. Thank you. Our times demand we heed our seasoned advisors, unite with like-minded fellows and strive for whatever is achievable, non-violently. History shows steady growth in human maturity, often despite oppression. Slaves were freed, women won the vote, fascism was defeated (granted, with greater violence). As Robert Kennedy said about steps for greater democratic freedom, "Why not?"
Again, convergence. Last night i arrived at a film of you giving a TED Talk in Tuscon, Arizona, (where i lived for a year, great gig) on You Tube. This morning i wake to your fantastic presentation on this subject, which i will just call living life. Your ability to communicate so on point and with different voices over grand concepts leaves me in awe. Honestly, i have moments when i think i must be a fool to write these comments. Yet, obviously, it hasn’t stopped me. My more brief comment, the word should. When i hear myself about to use it, i stop, rethink, rephrase, restate. Openness, with possibilities and potential for all parties and outcomes.
I find it fascinating that the Dali lama has come out to say his replacemeant could be a woman or from another country. I don't trust the chinese government nor does he.
